As you know by now, our cafeteria is
using the point of sale program called
SNAPS for
payment of lunch. Students have an account and punch their numbers into the
code box to have money deducted for lunch.
There has been some confusion about
"a-la-carte" items.
Milk and juice purchased alone are considered
a-la-carte. A-la-carte
items cannot be purchased with money in the lunch
account. For example: Your
child has $20 in the lunch account.
One day, however, he/she brings lunch but wants
to purchase milk.
The milk cannot be purchased from the lunch
account, and if there is nothing in the a-la-carte
account, there will be a charge.
This is an issue with the SNAPS program and not
a school issue. Ms.
Bowlden has talked with county personnel about the
confusion this has caused.
I am sure it will be discussed with SNAPS
personnel.
As of now, however, if you want to
ensure that your child can purchase separate juice or
milk from time to time, you may want to designate (on
the envelope) that you want a certain amount in the
a-la-carte account.
Thanks for your cooperation and participation
in the school lunch program.
