Grading System
Many assessments will be done by informal
observations. We will assess and evaluate individually
and during large and small group times. Conferences
will be held to inform parents of student progress
within the first ten weeks.
Report Cards
X indicates that the student receives
modifications and interventions in order to meet
expectations.
N indicates that the student does not
meet expectations.
M indicates that the student meets
expectations.
E indicates that the student exceeds
expectations.
***Can a student have an M one time and an N the
next time? YES! The level of difficulty increases
throughout the year. For example, students are
assessed on coin recognition for the first nine
weeks, and they are assessed on coin values the
second nine weeks.
Explanations will be sent home with the report cards
so that the parents will know what was evaluated.
Homework
Homework will be given
to reinforce skills learned in the classroom and to
develop reading proficiency. A daily reading log will
be sent home requiring students to read 10 minutes.
Beginning the first week of school, students will have
weekly spelling lists with assignments. Math homework
will be sent approximately 2 times each week.
All homework is to be returned in the daily folder to
the paraprofessional. Please encourage neatness on
homework and schoolwork.
Conferences
We would like to
encourage at least 2 conferences this year: one after
the first report card and one mid-year. Please send a
note in the daily folder if you would like to request
an additional conference of phone call at any time.
Lunch/Ice Cream
Students may prepay for
their lunches on Monday. Please make all checks
payable to Peeples Elementary School. Additionally,
students may purchase ice cream on a daily basis.
Please keep ice cream money separate from the lunch
money and provide correct change.
Daily Folder
This is our way of
communicating with parents on a daily basis. Folders
need to be cleaned out and returned every day. Please
put all notes and money inside the folder. We will
not check bookbags for notes or money. We will check
only folders. Money should be sent in an envelope or
Ziploc inside the daily folder. Label the envelope
with the child’s name, teacher’s name, and purpose of
money.
Snacks
First grade students
will be eating lunch between 11:00 and 11:50. We
encourage you to send a healthy, substantial snack
with your child each day.
Classroom Management
The student will be
involved in solving his/her problem. Consequences for
inappropriate behavior are designed to be
instructional rather than “punitive.” The intent is
to prepare students to function effectively in
society.
Field Trips
We are planning two
field trips this year. We are still in the planning
stages. We will send you information at a later
date. No siblings will be able to attend field trips.
Bookbags
Bookbags (or backpacks)
are essential. Please be sure your child brings one
every day.
Label, Label, Label
Please label all items
(coats, sweaters, lunch boxes, bookbags, etc.).
Shoes, Hats,
Shorts, etc…
No hats may be worn.
Girls may wish to wear shorts under dresses. We
encourage students to wear tennis shoes daily,
especially on PE days (TBA).
Transportation
Changes
Any changes in your
child’s transportation are to be in writing and placed
in your child’s daily folder.
Thanks!
We would like to thank
you in advance for what we know will be a fantastic
year. Thank you for your help and support!
