What is SCRIP?

SCRIP is one of the easiest and most convenient fundraisers at Peeples Elementary.  We began the program in February 2001, and SCRIP has become more popular each year. Over the past 3 years SCRIP purchases generated $50,000 for the school.

SCRIP is a gift certificate program for local and nation wide stores.  These certificates are used just like cash.  The merchants discount the purchase of these gift certificates to the school.  Parents order certificates and receive the full face value of the gift certificate. Since the merchants discount the cost to the school the difference becomes fundraising income.  The school discount on gift certificates varies by merchant, but ranges from 2% -20%.  We order the majority of the gift certificates (which may be used nationwide) through a non-profit organization called Great Lakes SCRIP.  These merchants include Wal-Mart, GAP, Chili's, Home Depot and Blockbuster, just to name a few. We also have local participants such as Brass Hanger, Kroger, Mike & C's, Peachtree Education Station and Shenanigan Toys.

How does Scrip Work?

The SCRIP program is coordinated by a team of PTO volunteers.  There are usually 2 SCRIP orders each month.  Orders are collected on a Tuesday and delivered back to the family on Friday of the same week.  The process couldn’t be easier.  When you receive your SCRIP order form home in your child’s backpack simply fill it out.  Include your name, phone number, your children’s names, teacher’s names, delivery option, and order selections.  Don’t forget to include your form of payment, checks made out to Peeples SCRIP.  We do offer MasterCard/Visa transaction option at the bottom of the order. Credit Card companies charge us 2% of your purchase to process your order so we ask that whenever possible to please pay by check.   Once complete return your SCRIP order to school.  Orders are processed first thing in the morning on the order date so if you would like to send your order in early that would be great, they are kept in the school vault.

Your completed order will be delivered on Friday according to the method you selected on your order form.

Since a majority of our gift certificates are purchased through Great Lakes Scrip in the midwest region, we request a UPS next day delivery in order for Peeples to receive the gift certificates by Friday.  Please note that the most effective use of this program is to order gift certificates in advance of the time they will be needed in order to allow for unusual delivery delays such as bad weather.

If you haven’t, consider the following:

• If 200 families ordered $50 in SCRIP during each of the SCRIP orders, then Peeples would raise approximately $8,000 per year.  If 400 families ordered $50 per SCRIP order that would generate $16,000 so you can see that with your use of SCRIP the possibilities are endless.

• SCRIP gift certificates make great gifts for Birthdays, Holidays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day – So stock up now!

• Grandparents and other family members can participate by viewing/selecting gift certificates from a SCRIP order form.

• Use SCRIP for home improvement projects, thank-you gifts, babysitter gifts, and for your everyday shopping.

• Because it is money you would normally spend (i.e. groceries, restaurants, clothes, home improvements, toys, books), it’s never been easier to give to your school and not have it cost you anything extra.

So, the next time you see a SCRIP order form come home in your child’s backpack, consider the impact you could have by using the Peeples SCRIP program!  With your help, SCRIP could be the major fund-raiser for Peeples Elementary.
